Are you a FTCP?
As a First Time Concert Parent (FTCP) this is an exciting time for you and your dancer. The first thing to do is NOT PANIC!
By now you should have received your very first Concert Pack, which contains everything you need to know regarding the upcoming concert.
Yes, it may look involved at first glance but we have created this pack to be an easy to use reference guide.
The pack includes ALL the info needed to participate in our annual concert which is an incredibly inspiring and empowering day for all students and family members.
The concert is a place where students have the opportunity to showcase their work confidently and with pride. Students beam on stage with excitement. Students constantly tell us that the concert is their highlight of their year, next to their Birthdays!
We have broken the pack down into easy to find topic bubbles. THere are a few dates to mark on your calendar, we have also taken care of this by including a fridge calendar to stick up and refer to at home.
Our Costume Photo Day is also a hugely anticipated day. Students will be able to try their costumes on for the first time and get the chance to take some breath taking photos with a professional photographer which you can treasure forever.
We like to distribute the concert packs out early each year, so all the information and dates are easy for families to work around.
We also put everything in one place, there will not be any further notes or correspondence regarding the concert later in the year. So its important this document is not misplaced. It also helps to eliminate notes being left in dance bags and reduced confusion.
Don’t forget to talk to your dancer over the upcoming months and include them in this creative process. It also helps them to gain a greater understanding of what’s coming up and helps to reduces nerves.
So sit down with a cup of tea (or a wine) and have a read through the pack, I promise it’s not as complicated as it looks. If you still have questions please drop us a line on our socials or pop us a quick email at email@example.com.

Taking a dance class is not like taking another exercise class. Whatever reason you are taking a dance class for, it is important that you do some warm up before you start the dance class. Have you ever tried to start a class during winter? You must give it some time after the engine starts running to warm up for it to run smoothly. The same happens with the human body. You must, first of all, do some exercises for your body to warm up and be ready for the real task.
One of the major reasons why you should warm up before taking a dance class is to prepare your body for the dance exercise and to avoid injury. Your body just like the car engine must be given time to warm up otherwise it won’t run smoothly. Preparing for the exercise gets the brain ready, and it alarms the whole body that it’s going to do some vigorous activity. In dancing, preparation is everything a correct and safe warm up will help with fewer chances of injuries.
During warm-up, you increase the blood flow to you muscles from the neck, to the hands and all the way down to the legs. This prepares your body to fuel your dance movements adequately. You also increase your respiration rate (breaths per minute) slowly during warm up. If you go directly to the dance session, there is the danger of getting tired fast because you have abruptly started without getting your muscles ready and without a safe increase in your respiratory rate. Increasing your breathing all at once can be dangerous and it can shock the body.
Warm up increases lubrication of your joints to facilitate easier ranges of motion. Your joints have a liquid called the synovial fluid which acts like oil lubricating your joints. When it is cold, the oil moves slowly and it makes movements difficult but when it is warm movement becomes much easier since the synovial liquid is moving faster through your joints.
It’s so important to have the body ready for an intense activity. Your brain controls your body, and during warm up, the speed of neural signal transmission is increased from the brain all through to the muscles. Warm up also focuses your attention on the activity you are about to commence allowing your body feel ready to take on the activity.
In a nutshell – warming up before taking a dance class is crucial because it gets your whole body ready and it also minimizes the risks of injury.

Importance of a Studio Uniform
Innovative Dance Co has had a uniform in the past but over the years the lines have become blurred and the team felt it was time to re introduce it with some fresh designs and styles.
There are many reasons for a uniform in dance. We want to teach our students to “respect the art of dance.” Uniforms in dance are a part of it’s long history.
With Dance, is discipline and whilst we strive to create fun and energetic classes by “dressing the part” a student looks like, behaves and becomes a dancer enabling a sense of pride.
A uniform helps a teacher to be able to see a dancers alignment, posture, toes and more from head to toe in order to make corrections when needed.
An important part of our decision is that a dress code cuts down on distractions in class such as who is wearing the latest cutest dance attire or trend and helps to promote class unity.
Inappropriate clothing can cause discomfort and even injury.
Our uniform is custom designed and there is something for everyone it has been created exclusively for Innovative and has taken in many considerations such as styles and price point allowing students to mix- and-match creating their own individual comfortable look.
Uniforms will make a great stocking filler for Christmas, we can take care of any surprises.

The gift of dance is a wonderful thing to pass on to our children. There are so many advantages that dancing brings to a child’s life, but these are our top 3.
1. Dancing gives kids confidence
So many time we see the quiet, shy kid come out of their shell in a dance class. Allowing kids to move freely and be creative gives them an ego boost.
2. It is fun and active!
Dancing is fun, but best of all it keeps us active and moving. In a time when we all seem to be doing less with our bodies (driving instead of walking, spending time indoors on computers instead of playing outside), dancing in all forms is a welcomed relief.
3. Self control
Dance classes require physical control over our bodies, but most importantly dancing also requires mental self control. Learning a new routine (and practicing it of course!) requires patience and mental stamina. We often see that this self control and attention is then transferred to other areas of a child’s life, whether it be school work or sport.
